So last week we started to go back to school.
Since of the crisis in the country we now finish at 12:00. We started off the week well with all of our normal class. We all had English, math, history, P.E, I.T, speech, and current event. This week was also a bit challenging because we had loads of work to turn in.
We also lost all lot of students because they are leaving the country.

Another week without school....
This week was a strong week for all of us living here in Ivory coast. You can find more information on :http://topics.pe.com/topic/Laurent_Gbagbo.
Our English teacher gave us an assignment to finish reading the book Night. In History we had to read about the Unification of Germany and to answer a couple of question which I found really interesting. In Math we had to take a 10 question quiz which was very simple and after taking the quiz we had to scan it and send it back to our teacher. In current event we were sent article, which we need to summarize and send to our teacher by Monday, and you will be seeing my summary on the blog!
The thing i really enjoyed this week was me talking with my teacher. I talked on Skype with my Math teacher which was very helpful because I was able to ask him a couple of question.

Could Martin Luther King Jr nonviolent system work in Côte d’Ivoire past, present or future?
Dr Martin Luther king Jr was a great man who used a system. He believed in the power of love, which he would call nonviolent resistance. This method of nonviolent resistance helped his people achieve freedom. I believe that Martin Luther nonviolent system could have a place in Cote D’ivoire past, present and future.
Martin Luther King Jr was born on January 15, 1929. Martin went to segregated public schools in Georgia, and he graduated from high school at the age of fifteen. After finishing going to school, he married Coretta Scott and they had four children. In 1954, Martin became pastor of a church in Alabama. In December 1955, he accepted the first nonviolent demonstration in America. The bus boycott lasted 382 days and on December 21, 1956, the Supreme Court decided to stop the laws requiring segregation on buses. During the boycott, Martin was arrested and his house was bombed. In 1957, he was elected president of the Southern Christian leadership. He directed the peaceful march in Washington D.C. of 250,000 people where he said the speech “I Have a Dream”. Martin was the youngest man to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. On the evening of April 4, he was assassinated while standing on the balcony of his motel.
In my own, nonviolent protest is a way of protesting against injustice. Nonviolent protest is a way of showing that the other person looks violent. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi is a good example on how to fight injustice using nonviolent protest. Martin Luther King was also a good example. He would use speeches, boycotts; sit ins and other forms of peaceful protest. There are loads of examples of non violent protests. Marching and demonstrations are examples. When people strike for example not going to work. When they disobey to unjust laws and refuse to pay for unjust arrests. I believe that nonviolent protest can make differences.
I believe that nonviolent system could have a place in Cote D’Ivoire past, present and future. There were people like Martin Luther King who used methods long time before the crisis started. Our leaders could have used these methods. There are ways to prove to the populations, that you are telling the truth. For example you can have speeches or strikes. Political leaders could tell people not to go to work but the people should be willing to listen. Also political leaders could give speeches on their plan for the nation. A bad method is preventing people to have access to information about another political group for example cutting the newspaper or channels. Another bad method is killing innocent people or by making people suffer for example by cutting electricity and water for example going into people’s house and killing them. War should be between armies and it should stay this way. If people used nonviolent protest, people wouldn’t be scared to leave their house. Also we the students would be going to school and the city would be functioning. Also the population would be willing to fight for a change. They would need to listen to their political leader but if all they do is stay at home nothing will happen. I truly believe that nonviolent protest is possible. Political leaders could tell people not to go to work. It also depends on the population. If the population wants a change, then they will fight for it. An example is in Egypt, the president Muhammad Hosni Mubarak resigned and the population didn’t use violence to make him leave. All they did was gather in the street as a united country and tell him to leave.
I think people should use nonviolent system in Cote D’Ivoire. It is a good way to prevent violence. I think that if people start using nonviolence, things would change in the country. People wouldn’t be scared to leave their houses. War should be between armies and it should stay this way.

Blogs
Today we had our first lesson on BLOGS and a blog is a place to share your thoughts and your passions blog id a frequently updated online personal journal or diary. It is a place to express yourself to the world.
I think that the blog would be very helpful because it will help us out to stay in contact with other people in the world. They would also be able to find out what we do in school or out of school!
